A bit long, but relevant to our discussion on race and context

here's the link, and I'd be interested to hear your comments on it.

  1. I think "More Radical Mis-speaking" is an interesting post. The writer holds a very good point. It is just an example of how people don't like to use the n-word publicly due to its history. It is funny how Beula "mistakenly" blurted out "nigger" when he should of repeated the leaflet the exact way it was phrased in the 1960's. This relates to the Gloria Naylor essay because it illustrates the interpretation of the N-word by the way it is used. IF Beula would of recited the racist leaflet, he would of never been percieved as racist, even if he's Caucasian. His point would of possessed more clarification and meaning

  2. Do you think that Beula's mis-statement could be classified as racist?

  3. I don't think that Beula's mis-statement can be classified as racist because he is on the BBC, intending not to mention the word publicly to avoid offenses taken by anyone. More or less, otherwise than something subliminal, an African American being radical would probably impose racism upon Beula's mis-statement.
